” Stop dreaming about your bucket list and start living it.” ~ Annette White
According to Merriam-Webster: bucket list (n) (informal)
a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime.
It seems now a days, we all seem to be creating a “bucket list”. It is said that having a list gives you some direction in life. It helps to guide you towards new things and new experiences. This one sort of ties together the purpose and the focus. You focus on your list, it gives you a sense of direction in your life and a purpose.
Our own list, definitely is more of a guide. We added places we dream of going to, places we want to return to and explore more, and others we need to research and check out the possibilities.
So many places to go, so little time! Here is the short list…
Alaska – Our largest and most sparsely populated of the 50 states. Known for its wide open spaces, mountains and forests, with abundant wildlife and small towns. Being the outdoor enthusiast that we are, Alaska makes our list for it’s natural beauty. In order to cover the most with limited time, cruising becomes the obvious alternative, for us. My goal, to get the ultimate whale photo, my husband’s, to stand in a pristine stream, hoping to hook a beautiful fish… which he will kiss and send it on its way.
Northern Italy: I’m hoping this will be our retirement trip. We are a couple of years from it, but never too late to plan. Always wanted to visit the country, but just never been. Our hope is to visit the northern part. Probably do the typical cities: Florence, Venice, but mostly we want to spend our time in the small villages tasting the local wine, visit the Dolomites, and the lake region. To attend a stage of the Giro D’Italia is high on our “to do list”.
Basque Region of Spain – Actually I have visited the area some 35+ years ago. But, as a teenager I didn’t really appreciate what the region had to offer. We hope to visit this less known region and enjoy the wonderful food and try their exceptional wines. Maybe even hop on the Camino de Santiago for a few miles.
Banff National Park – Banff and Jasper National Parks make the list for the breathtaking beauty. While we live in the Colorado Rockies, we never get tired of Mother Nature’s beauty. From research we’ve done and from everything we have heard from friends that have visited this region of Canada, this is a must road trip.
Madeira Island, Portugal – Mainland Portugal is home for me. But have not made it to the “islands” yet. Would love to start with Madeira. Madeira is made up of 4 small islands off the northwest coast of Africa. Its capital is Funchal. Hopefully our next trip to Portugal, we can take a side trip and spend a few days enjoying the islands. Maybe coordinate our visit with the Madeira wine harvest.
French Polynesia (Tahiti/Bora-Bora) – no bucket list is ever complete without having the south pacific islands on it. I could imagine us floating on the crystal blue water, napping under a coconut tree. I don’t think it would suck. But, reading about the islands, there is more to the area than white sands and beautiful water. Maybe one day we will get to experience the island culture with the french influence. Until then, we read about it.
