Spring in Utah – Running from the mountain snow!

2022/23 was a winter for the books. Most ski resorts in Colorado saw record snowfall. By March, our back yard was leveled with our lower roof edge. By then, we had not left our valley for over 3 months. Itching to pick up our camper and hit the road. And that is exactly what we did early March. Booked ourselves a few days in Hurricane, UT and enjoyed some hiking, golf & sun!

Sand Hollow State Park is a large campground with a great lake for kayaking and swimming in the summer. This was our second stay. Sites are well positioned so you don’t feel like you are on top of your neighbor.

Snow Canyon SP, just a few miles north of St. George, UT is a great park with many hiking opportunities for all levels. We choose to combine the Butterfly hike with the Whiterocks for a longer hike so we would take advantage of the gorgeous sunny day. Spectacular views surround you everywhere you look.

After the hike, a stop at the art village of Kayenta for a snack and a beverage.

St. George UT is the land of golf courses; hard to choose favorites…

We booked a tee-time at the beautiful The Ledges. Beautiful course, great club house at reasonable prices. The course was in great shape for it being early spring. Fun was had by all.

On the way back, through a couple of snowy passes, we stopped over in Moab, UT for an overnight stay since we were not ready to go back to the frozen tundra of NW Colorado. We lucked out with a nice spot in lower Onion Creek campground with a view of Fisher Towers. This is normally a good spot to stop away from town. If being in the center of what is going on is your thing, then Moab does offer many options right in town. We normally like more quiet spots with space and a view.

This was a great start to the 2023 camping season!
